Right hand, index finger.

A couple of weeks ago, this decided to plant itself on the knuckle of the aforementioned finger:

It doesn't hurt (even when pressed really hard), doesn't limit movement of the finger and doesn't cause me any inconvenience, but what the hell is it?

A cyst maybe?

I'd whack a needle in it and see what happens.

I am not a doctor.

it's either a ganglion cyst, finger AIDS, or something else.

I'm drawing upon my years of medical training and expertise, and guessing it's finger AIDS. Don't worry about that '2 pints extra' note you were going to put out for the milkman, you won't be needing them.

It's a bursa (an inflammation of the synovial sac) due to over-use of some sort.

Is it hard? Freeze it with one of those freezer kits and see what happens.

Nowhere it shouldn't be. Honest.

So, pop to the Doc's at the next opportunity?

To me it looks like a ganglion, I have had 2 removed from my wrist but another is appearing.

Crap picture but you get the idea, they try to remove with a syringe and then with surgery.

CW7 if I remember your a truck driver, am I correct? My first appeared when I was a Class 1 driver and the second one after I had moved into IT.

Looks like your right hand as well, do you hold the wheel with your right using your fingers or hand rather than both hands?

I think mine started with controlling the steering using the one hand and gear changes with the other and using the (forget the name it has been 20 years, is it called the dead mans handle? the attachment you can put on the steering wheel to turn with one hand similar to a disabled car steering wheel attachment)

Sorry did not mean to offend with the disabled remark but most people have seen the attachment I mean on a car rather than a truck.

But yes get to the docs if you want but they only do something about it if you say you feel uncomfortable about it and hate the way people look at it.

Given you are a driver, I'd say yes. Want to make sure it's just a nodule or somesuch that is nothing serious and they might be able to freeze and remove it there and then. Bottom line, better safe than sorry.

CW7

A suddenly appearing lump (over a few days/weeks, sometimes a bit painful as it appears) associated with a synovial joint, such as your PIP finger joint is generally a ganglion. These are usually fluctuant but can also be fairly tense. They are related to the joint as they are synovial (lining of certain joints) cysts.

A tendon sheath giant cell tumour is the most likely alternative diagnosis, but these are usually slow growing and the position of your lesion is not particularly classical. These are benign so don't panic.

Let your GP have a peek over the next few weeks, but I don't think there is any mad rush

You certainly are.

I've been a Class 1 driver since December last year.

Weird - why would becoming an artic driver cause this?
