Tour of Italy on the cards..

I originally bought my S2 with the intention of a road trip round Italy in september.Did Tuscany a few years ago in a truly terrible car.. Passat diesel hire car.
Now for the REAL DEAL..
We will have to take the bare essentials with us re clothes etc,but I will also take my small toolkit(size of a briefcase) and a few spare parts.What spares would you consider essential for the S2 ? Is it possible to fit one of the boot racks on the bodywork ? Seen them on other 2 seaters,but worried it might damage the bootlid ?
Starting to plan the route,bought the Lonely Planet Italy guide.Has anybody else done an Italy tour ?
Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

It is a beautiful country and well worth a driving holiday. But it can get very hot during the late summer so make sure you time it right.
There's no end to the list of things you might need, but I'd start with:
Spare bulb for every light on the car.
A dozen or so spare fuses in a range of ratings. (If you have a fault which starts blowing fuses, you might need several.)
Spare 5-pin dual pole relay.
Spare fan belt, and make sure it's _identical_ to the current one.
Gallon of petrol for emergencies.
Gallon of water for emergencies.
Window cleaning spray and paper towels for debugging the windscreen.
Torch.
Roadside recovery contact details, and phone to call them with.
If you're mechanically minded and likely to be willing to tackle any problems yourself I'd add:
Disposable gloves.
Spare ignition amp.
Spare set of plugs and leads.
Spare rotor cap and arm.
Spare coil.
Large roll of duct tape. (You'd be amazed how many split hoses can be repaired with enough layers of duct tape.)
5m coil of 5A wire. Crimp-on male/female terminals, and crimper.
Small bottle of DOT5.1 brake/clutch fluid.
Compact tool kit (from Halfrauds or similar) with a variety of screwdrivers and small sockets etc.
Disposable wipes to clean yourself up afterwards.

Are you in the TVRCC - if so then check out article in the Dec 2010 edition of Sprint...if not then let me know and I will e-mail a scanned copy...it just happens that I have a copy and always keen to spread the word.Love to read it..

Boot racks and Boot Bags were discussed last year before the Euro-tour so you might be able to find reference to them (useful links ?)
head for Volterra - great campsite but beware you will need to park OUTSIDE the campsite...
Great area but once you start visiting the towns, you had better make sure your cooling system is up to scratch.

Maybe a copy of the Steve Heath book would be good to have in case you have an issue as it gives serious help in terms of wiring and other bits and pieces should you need it. A few small wire connectors (with something to use as a crimping tool) might also useful in case of an electrical type problem.

As Andy has said, some of us did a little Job in an Italian style last year. Some of the same people plus a lot of new ones did a similar trip round Scotland a couple of weeks ago.
If you can wait until next summer I've got a strange feeling another mission to the Alps may be undertaken....
