£600 Mountain Bike?

Hi guys,
I'm wanting to get back in to riding, I live on box hill so have some excellent routes on and off road.
I have a Specialized Hardrock but it it only a 14" frame and I'd like a 16".
With this in mind I've been looking at Halfords and they have a nice Chris Boardman and a Carrera. They have hydraulic disks etc.
I wanted opinions on these bikes well the makes (can get links if needed, but on my iPhone ATM).
Any advice? Any specific gears / forks / brakes to be expecting at the £600 mark?
Oh, I'm not wanting full suspension. Just front. And I'd like a 16" frame so I could mess about on jumps with it but also put the saddle up to ride on the road.

The Boardman bikes are all excellent value and good bikes.
Some people don't like them because they're sold in Halfords rather than other bike shops. They imagine Halfords make them which isn't the case, Halfords just sell them. The advantage to you is that you get a bike with great components which would cost much more if it wasn't for halfords huge distribution network.

I'm not bothered about the "Halfords" image, a mate used to work for their bike hut years ago and he was excellent.
They have some good deals on and the 2 bikes I really like the look of are under £500 so I'd be left with enough cash for some new gloves and lizard skins to protect the frame.
Boardman Sport and the VooDoo Hoodoo look really well equipped and extremely good value for money.
I'm on holiday at the moment but will obviously go and check them out when I'm back in the uk. I was just curious to know whether they're considered decent bikes with decent kit as it's been a while since I last was up on my bike specs!
