How much work and effort and money would it cost to fit a sorted Sierra Cosworth engine and running gear into an S2 ?

I suspect this is entirely possible given that the 2.8 and 2.9 engines were both a Sierra fit at various stages. Not sure how the gearbox would match up but it would be really interesting to see..

Both BOA and BOB cossie engines will fit BUT the BOA is preferred because it's ecu is easier to use as opposed to the BOB which has anti-theft software installed, PATS. The BOB also has VIS on the inlet which is unpopular and it lacks the kudos of the cosworth badges on that rather nice looking BOA plenum. BUT I believe the BOB cams are better.

You would need the engine manamgment loom and ECU plus a 2.8 (I believe) flywheel and cossie clutch. The Type 9 gearbox is a direct fit but some have fitted a MT75 with a V6 bellhousing. Manifolds have to be fabricated.

So not straight forward but not bad.

Boosted LS1 is your man for details (pinched most of the comments from his posts) and the swap has been done by a few, just use the search engine to find them

The first car "badged" as a TVR Tuscan race car was an "S" Series with a group A RS 500 Cossie engine fitted. It was very succesful in the season before the first TVR Tuscan Challenge series. If you park an "S" next to a Tuscan race car you can see the DNA! Cosworth engines are rare and now a bit old hat, look at what can be achieved with a Duratec engine (2.2 or 2.5). Great weight advantages to both options and we all know weight is the enemy. Can never understand people wanting to fit old Granada Cosworth engine in an "S", its contrary to everything you want to achieve and generally unreliable. Only my opinion.

The YB Cosworth is an excellent engine if a little heavy.. based on the cast iron Pinto block.. but not much heavier than a Cologne V6.. also cast iron block.

You are correct though most are tired and a new one will set you back a fair bit.. assuming you have a good unit though I would keep the T5 gearbox. The real beauty of this engine though is the low cost of tuning.. assuming you have a good std unit @205 Bhp.. £200 buys you 280Bhp (chip change + Actuator) and 330 or so can be had for < £500 (chip, actuator, injectors) beyond this you need a bigger turbo. My sierra was running 360Bhp and really flew. If money plentiful and the weight bothers you ask Harvey Gibbs to build you a unit on an aluminium block.. IIRC Mike Rainbird had a 520Bhp unit built that did 30,000 miles plus with no problems he then swapped to an Escort and switched to a high compression 420Bhp engine probably to spare the 4WD system.

I did consider this but wanted to stay V6 in the S so have a 24V Cosworth Granada unit to fit at some point.. why its a cheep upgrade and bolts in (with the aforementioned mods)

A modern alternative would be the Jaguar 3.0 Duratech @ 240Bhp but their are fitting issues or how about a Nissan 3.5V6 + Gearbox @280Bhp.. but this is probably too wide.

Its a shame I6 M3 engine + box wont fit.. 330Bhp..

What ever happened to the V6 with a Lexus V8 conversion..? that looked cool.

Cheers

Damian 12V V6 for now.. S3

for the S with Lexus V8 see Alan Whitaker on here.

I'm in the process of fitting a 24v in my S - engine and MT75 box are in and I'm making the exhaust at the mo.

Hi All
The Lexus conversion is in full swing, I removed the body a few weeks ago, this weekend I am replacing some bits of the outriggers that are a bit rusty.
I hope to start making up some engine mounts if I get the time on Sunday and with a bit of luck start on the manifolds next week.
It was going to take forever on the drive so I have rented a workshop with 3 phase for the welders.
