I loved this guy as Watson. The Jeremy Brett version of Holmes was always tops in my book. :

A great legacy...I agree about the Brett & Hardwicke characterisations, still enjoy watching them as foil and counterfoil.

RIP EH

He did wonderfully. As well and complicated as Brett did his charachter, Hardwicke's Watson had to be an upscaled version as oppossed to the buffoon of the original stories. I too still watch these frequently. Absolute sterling TV that we don't see much of anymore.

Watson was charaterised as a buffoon in the early films, which went against his portrayal in the original books (indeed, he was the narrator).

The Granada series put that right, and have been the closest screen adaptations to the books.

Thanks for that. I thought I recalled him sort of a dunce in the books. Perhaps it is the older films I am thinking of. I'll blame Basil Rathbone. smile Agreed Granada is to be praised.

He was excellent in the film Shadowlands too. (Very good film, BTW)

We are building more walls than an Israeli border brigade at the moment. So far, if the massive levees hold, those that flood are those "designed" to flood. We will know by around Saturday the 28th, when the crest is reached. Thanks for checking, I will let you all know. We are fortified, all preps made, rescue personnel are in place along about 350 miles of the Mississippi River and Atchafalaya Basin; now we are in the waiting mode.

Do I need to send mops?

(Good luck... I once drunkenly peed either side of the toilet once, and it was awful the next day)

(No seriously., good luck smile)

Perhaps a new thread should be started on that topic?

Very sad.
Brett IS Holmes. Everybody else is just playing at it but it wouldn't be the same without Hardwicke's Watson.

Good, it would be a shame if this thread was to be hijacked.
