I've just finished watching series 4, series 5 ordered hopefully come in time for the weekend. My only regret is my other half insisting we ordered the first series first rather than getting the boxset so it's cost about £30 getting them individually rather than just getting the £45 boxset.

Anyhow, series 4 has probably been my favourite so far. I wasn’t sure about series 4, knowing that McNulty wasn’t in it much and with Barksdale crew pretty much gone a few of my favourite characters were gone. Just loved it from start to finish but only have 1 more series to knowing that TV may never be this good again………

Can't believe Ive waited this long to get into it.

Good, but The Shield is good too. You ought to see them both.

Shall have a look into that now. Don't normally like cop type shows but there's probably more out there I should give a go.

The Shield is very good, it's a more conventional type of TV series with season long storylines and show by show storylines too, to keep things accessible for the casual viewer. You really aught to buy all the Wire seasons though, the 2nd and 3rd ones are superb!

I'm mid-way through season 3 and have purchased them individually too too, doh!

It is good, although the dialogue is often difficult to comprehend, plus it's nae as good as the mighty Dexter smile

you feel me?

I can also recommend the Shield, great characters that you really get attached too...as mentioned before it's a more traditional cop show with more what some would call 'action' than the wire but its very good.

Another vote for the Shield, it's a bit more 'action' as already stated but really is worth watching. I've watched it twice now and I still really rate it.

The key for me is, like the wire, you really get attached to the characters.

Better than the Sopranos for me, although that was excellent too. I will be getting the Shield next.

Series 1 superb, 2 less so, 3 brilliant, 4 better again, 5 dips a little. Best cop series by far, as Vice was in the UK.

Series 5 came this morning and I'm already half way through. Not enjoying as much as I was the previous series at the same stage. Will be interested to see if it ends in a satisfactory manor which is a pretty difficult thing to do, maybe impossible. Had Grays longest Sheeeeeiiiitttt of all time I was almost wetting myself.

I'd still say the sopranos is my favourite show of all time, I can watch it again and again no matter which series. I can't really see me doing the same maybe one every 12 months or so.

The Wire - Just the greatest show on earth... series 4 the best for me
The shield - cracking fun and you really like the characters even when they are bad
Sons of Anarchy - Only seen first 2 series, but very good and a bit different
24 - a good romp, but not in the same class as the above

We´ve got Dexter to watch, but will also get a couple more like Luther, Vice (taken from above) and the Soprano´s. All other suggestions welcome

Just watching series 1 of the Wire as it is being rerun on FXHD at the moment, and getting to grips with the language aside, absolutely loving it.

Also watched the first episode of Chicago Code the other night, which looks like it might be quite good. Got the same guy in it that was in Brotherhood (I think?), a sort of Irish Sopranos type thing...

It's a might seeeeeeeiiiiitttt isn't it, I was laughing watching it.

The ending actually very good, one of the best to a major US show. Certainly better than the bloody odd Suprano's one.

I remember when I watched series 1, someone advised me to watch it with subtitles on for a bit to until I tuned in. Worked a treet.

Still love that scene in the house, investigating a murder:

"f**k!"
"f**k!"
"f**k!"
"motherf**ker"
etc
etc
etc

Chicago Code is good - however it has been cancelled by the network because of bad ratings in the US smile
