...i received a speeding ticket through the post, i still can not belive its happened. this is the first time ever i've received one, but i was wondering if anybody could tell me if you get points AND a fine if it is the first time, or can they be a bit leanient (sp?)

i admit it was my own mistake as i was late for work ( for the first time in ages) and hit the lound pedal a bit to much.

any help will be much appreciated

points and a fine, Umar, I'm afraid

probably 3 points and 60 quid or something - been about 6 years since my last one, although a bit overdue as I did double the speed limit on the M40 this morning

no leniency - it's an absolute offence - although this could be reduced in mitigation if you took it to court (for 3 points and 60 quid I wouldn't bother). If you were taking the wife to hospital, outrunning a mad axeman, or your accelerator had stuck, then pleading mitigating circumstances would make some sense.

Cheers and bad luck
Dom

Thanks Dom, so should i see my insurence rocket aswell? does it go up by much? (for a 21 years old)

Stupid thing was on that day i got fined for being 2 min late at work, my office computer got fried, got slaped on the face by a woman collegue (don't ask, long story) and at the end of the day my car would refuse to start. There was only one thing going through my mind...BOOX!!!!!!!!

Oh well, good bye and farewell Lotus Elise.......

Umar,

If its any consolation I found that the first offence doesn't hit you too hard on insurance. I only got a TS10 (jumping a red light), this was 3 points and £40 (is think) fine. Same points but not sure if this is a lesser offence than speeding.

I don't think it dented my premium too much, 10% max I found

Yeah, tell us about the slap! Sounds a classic.

Re insurance, most insurance companies 'let you off' one speeding offence, as they reckon everyone gets one at some point, even the numpties. It shouldn't affect your insurance at all, to be honest.

If it's a non 'SP' speeding offence, like the traffic signal violation then they may look at it differently.

Don't let it put you off a Lotus Elise. I got an SP30 (3 points) in 1995 and had a Caterham on the drive, fully comp, no NCB for just 600 quid the next year aged 23.

Cheers

ER... which bently, the green one, blue one, black one or silver one?

No use getting pikys to nick all his wheels, he'll know most of them.

Anyway, about this bird who slapped me, it was all a big accident all that happened was we were at McD's drive though and as i gave her the tray of milk shakes i ACCIDENTLY put my hand on her ample bossom, the next thing i know my glasses are in the footwell somwhere and my head hurts, i suppose its a natutal thing for a woman to react like that, or am i wrong

BTW she aplogiesed and said she new it was an accident so everthing was OK.

IMHO it was an excuse to clobber you, Umar!

She must be a sadist. Don't wear a leather mask with a zip to work, or you'll really set her off.

3 points?? you want to live in northampton - i have 14 now!! we have more speed cameras than roads. points dont seem to affect insurance as much as u'd think unless its cos of drink driving but then u deserve it
