Spotted on the way to work this morning, a new looking Ford Explorer/Nissan Terrano Paramedic response vehicle. This is fair enough I thought, until I spotted a personal plate! S7 RTA. Not exactly an expensive one I know, but don't they have better things to spend their money!
Rant mode of.

'S7 RTA' as in 'Road Traffic Accident'.
Well I suppose its to the point.

It could have been worse: 'S7 DOA' as in 'Dead On Arrival'

Or a paramedic vehicle "D3 ATH"

The S. Yorks. paramedics have the pleasure of scooting around in an Audi A3, with blue lights and all that kit. Nice when you're late for your tea!

Our local Police/NHS must be being doing well! A couple of months ago I saw someone pulled over on the M40 near Oxford by an undercover BMW 540i, complete with 18in wheels WTF is going on there!

Saw a TV thing about the government agency that investigates accidents. Their vehicle: A Mercedes Benz E-class estate.

Dont know about your areas, but the equivalent one here is a Subaru Forester Turbo. In fact it was my local doctor that was first on the scene at the Frankie Detori plane crash.... needed the 4x4 Turbo then... Couldnt save the pilot though...

However, back to my point - it is sponsored (and has been for many years) but the Newmarket Gineas. In fact they basically pay for the car and the rest of the costs are pulled out of the shared pool for NHS, doctors and Ambulance in the region....

Might be the same there - best not point too many fingers.

Cheers,

Paul

Quite often the purchase price of an emergency vehicle plays second fiddle to the running costs - i.e. does it have a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty, and what will it be worth in 3 years time. So you could find that the 540 which may have an unlimted milage warranty and is worth a fair bit in 3 years, is actually cheaper over 3 years that the Vectra with a 60k mileage warranty (Hence have to pay for all work that needs doing after the first year or so) & worth square root of sod all in 3 years...
