Oh look a grey blurry thing

Living in the northeast of scotland i am quite used to being buzzed by tornadoes (the plane type) but the other day we got buzzed a by a military jet with two rudder fins.

So what kind of military jet with two rudders was libel to be playing around stonehaven area

We get F15s over us in the N Yorks Moors almost daily during the summer. Could well be one of those, as it's probably only another 30-40 mins up the coast at the speeds they're doing

Probably an F15E Strike Eagle out of Lakenheath. The Stonehaven bay is quite a good radar fix point for entry into low level around the Scottish Highlands.

Bit strong that Mr Hogan what shade of grey was it? Light grey or dark grey?

I thought it was something american but I thought they had retired their planes with two rudders.

They retired their f-14s but still operate both the f-18 and f-15, and it was probably f-15s from Lakenheath.

There are two basic generations of F-18s as well. The original F-18A/B/C/D family and the greatly enhanced (and quite a different aeroplane actually) F-18E/F

You can see the differences -
