Why was this film not nominated for an Oscar? The movie that made Morgan Freeman.

It only really got popular when released on DVD. It SHOULD have gotten an oscar, but I don;t think it was that high profile at the time.

It was nominated for 7 Academy Awards, but without a doubt it was a victim of poor timing of the release - it got limited release for a week or two and it's wider release it was up against Pulp Fiction, which absolutely monstered the box office, as well as Forrest Gump.

7 Oscar nominations, tops many 'greatest of all time' lists (IMDB Top 250 for example, based on almost 600,000 user reviews), and features in most others worthy of note, praised by most it seems. I don't think Robert Egbert has much to worry about should you decide to become a professional movie critic wink

Happy to concede that I think it's overrated and IMO not worthy of the 'greatest of all time' title many suggest it is, but I'd say the fact it's so highly praised almost a decade after receiving 7 Oscar nominations is evidence enough that it's Osar material.

It IS highly praised, and for the life of me I can't understand why.

If I could be bothered I'd google for other films that were recommended for Oscars and won none - all for good reasons.Simply an average movie.

I struggled to turn the TV off last night. Thought I'd watch the first few mins whilst finishing off an email before I knew I'd watch half an hour. I had to go to bed so did find the off button. I've watched that film many times but it's still brilliant each time, Morgan Freeman is fantastic (actually the whole cast is great)

Still amazes many people when they find out it's a Stephen King story.

As was Stand By Me... great film. In fact, he did The Running Man as well.

Stand by Me and Shawshank were in the same book of shorts too.

It would have to get back from the museum it now resides in, in belgium.

Damn you redundancy.

And you think that it can't find it's way back from Belgium, and run you down? You foolish, naive little person! hehe

The only thing that grates me is the final scene on the beach, it's not necessary FFS! The last scene could (in fact should) be Morgan Freeman heading off on the bus, hoping he will see his friend again, it doesn't need anything else past that grumpy

I agree, but it's not enough to ruin the film.
Redundant for sure, though.

Wrong colour spec for Christine...
Trust me, this is a discussion you don't want to get into smile

Its 1983 Camaro red, which was the colour they were painted in the film.
Toreador Red and Iceberg White were the original colour specs you could get for the 1958 Belvedere. But Toreador Red is way too dark.

And they did't give a crap when they made the film, they just bought the first bright red they saw.
Hence 1983 Camaro Flame Red.

Would you like to disagree? smile
