Turtle beach question

I don't know anything about this, but a quick googling suggests you need one of these, http://www.turtlebeach.com/support/index.php?View=...

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I can't understand why it's marketed as an Xbox 360 headset if it effectively does not work with one????

The wired Turtle beach X11 are most easily connected by inserting the headphones connectors between the sound input (red and white) from the Xbox and the TV. If you are using an HDMI lead that's not possible as it's only one lead, not 2 sound + video.
However your headphones can be plugged in to your AV or Speaker output. A friend of mine uses his with HDMI that way.
I can only imagine the X41s have a similar setup for the sender unit...
I hope that's as clear on here as it is in my head!

As the first response, just get one of these...
ebay
The adapter is slimmer than the standard one and so allows for the hdmi cable to be connected. I've the same set up as you're going for and it works fine. Only difference is mine is the genuine MS adapter so not sure of the quality of the 3rd party ones.
