How realistic is this?

I keep seeing Chimera's about and I really fancy one.

But I can't afford a big outlay for the car. So how feasable is this - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2647646.htm as a Daily?

TVR Chimera for £6.5k as a daily driver?

FWIW Daily I travel about 5 mile each way to work, so fuel cost is not an issue.

Am I nuts thinking about this? will I end up on the back of an AA truck every week?

You are probably quite mad.

But every single day would be a massive laugh; even if it turned out to be an absolute mutt and you had a breakdown everyday it'd still be fun

Hi, I commuted 70 miles round trip out of Central London to Bucks every day for over a year in my 94 Chim 400. I didnt experience a single problem and was never late for work. They respond well to regular use as long as they are serviced regularly and looked after. As long as the car you go for is well sorted its not a problem.

Why not take a chance on an aging Ford Focus instead.

I used a cat C Griffith with sketchy history as a daily driver for 18 months. Before that a 21 yr old Wedge as a daily for 18 months. From September onwards I'll be using my current Chimp as my daily. Rover engine & gearbox, Vauxhall switches & steering column, Ford Sierra wheel bearings & brakes, etc etc. All reliable, cheap, easy stuff. Go for it.

I've run my 350I 'Wedge' as my only car for fifteen months and 9,000ish miles now, and apart from a dead battery one morning I've been towed home just once (after I'd been fiddling with the electrics).

I use my Chim 450 as a daily driver. 14mpg is a bit painful but it's a good laugh and has proven pretty reliable so far.

Looks like the interior might be on the damp side - just make sure thats not too serious or the wiring will be a mare.

Thanks guys. The question was more of, is a Bargain Chim a bad decision?

Rather than looking at that actual car. Most Chims are above £12k, whereas there are a few at around £6.5k. Are those cars to avoid....

The only worry I would have is that 5 miles isnt enough to get things warmed up properly , so you will be mostly driving it cold putting a strain on some components.

But being a chim you should do what everyone else does, find a 20 mile route to work with lots of twisties
