I know this would be a stupid idea, but.....

Very cheap, but could I trust it to rack up 100k miles in 3 years?

Looks good. If it's a UK car then it gets a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty so the selespeed needn't be a big worry. Although it being a selespeed I guess it's an import?

Yup, it's an import, allegedly with a 2 year warranty.

I may email them to see if they can do a deal on 2 year manufacturer + 1 year independent warranty on my mileage.

I think these are from Malaysia or Singapore. Somewhere like that anyway.
There's a load of discounted 147 Selespeeds kicking about too:

Nothing wrong with them, just depends if you are happy with the Selespeed box....

Sounds like a plan. By the way, that car's up for a smidge under £15k on autotrader so they may be keen to do a deal. Nice colour too.

Although that money would get a year-old low mileage JTD which would probably make more sense if you're doing 100k miles out of your own pocket.

Not my own pocket!

I have a fuel card for business and personal use - meaning I only pay 20% of my private fuel costs in tax and can claim back tax on the difference between fuel costs and the IR rates at the end of the year.

Makes a lot of sense to me.... especially as I need something without a clutch pedal.

The price on the 'trader is before OTR costs, which are shown inclusive on the website.

Hmmmm, I'm still not all that convinced.

I need to speak to them.

The PITA is that I can't buy for 6 weeks..... wonder if they'd hold it with a deposit?

They want it gone, and it's the only one they have.

He'll keep in touch and let me know if they still have it come October.

I had kind of assumed they had lots of them, as they've been flogging import 147s for about 6 months and still have lots left.

Find out a build date for the car, it could have been built 3 years ago and just hung around.

Yeah, that's highly likely - but it would be registered as a 58 plate with a 2 year Alfa warranty and a 3rd year from a 3rd party could be added for £199. I reckon they'd take £15k all-in with the 3rd year on that, too.

Anyway - in terms of Selespeed boxes, would I be right to assume that any JTS Selespeed is the version 3 box?

If so, I could pretty much confidently buy any GT or facelift 156 with this engine and box combination?

Just spotted some 04 plated 156s kicking around for not a lot of money - cheap enough to pay for over 1 year from my company car allowance and pass on to Mrs 75 to replace her ageing TSpark.
