Hi guys,

I went to help a friend of mine look at a 2.0 Alfetta yesterday and jsut wnted your oninions on a couple of points please. The car itself seemed very solid and genuine with a recent body resotation that look sot havebeen done to a good standard. There were a couple of mechanical concernes and I'm not an Alfa man myself, hence asking here....

On the test drive the steering was very very heavy when steering to the right. Now its possible that it could be tyre pressures but from my firends decription of it it sounds probably more than that. Is there anthing specific to either Alfas or this model that could cause that?

Also when they returned, there was a strong 'thrash' smell tinged with lightly burnign oil, but it was just a 10-15 min drive Didn't smell like the car was about to ignite or anything but still...

The electric fan came on during the short test drive, now its good to see the fan works, but as it was a pretty short journey not on the open road, is that pointing to a possible overheating issue?

Car was MOT'ed etc and was very clean and solid and the guy selling it came across as a genuine Alfa nut, which was nice to see. The car is in this months classic and sportscar as a small feature about buying it..

Any advice gratefully recieved!

Neil

If it's in a feature about buying them then that's probably a good sign!
Know nothing about the steering issue, but lots of older cars have a whiff of oil about them I find.
As long as they're kept topped up, where's the harm?!
