1998 gear box leak

hi, iv had my 156 for about 3 years now, been not to bad, apart from the usuall, not the fu*ker has got a leak from the gear box,think its a gasget,anyone know how much this is likely to cost to fix, just so iv got a rough figure, the guys round here can be dogey lol, its a 2.5 v6, cheers

I'm afraid this job will not be cheap.

It happened to mine (same year as yours) and its a fair bit of work for a mechanic to do. There are 2 oil seals which should be fairly simple to do but it also involves moving the engine and possibly some distmantling of the subframe if I remember correctly.

My garage told me that while they were doing it that "I might as well change the clutch too"

Its all sorted now but wasn't cheap (can't really compare Hong Kong Vs UK pricing) as it will be a fair few hours work.

ye just as thought eh ( shock!)put it today, not got a price yet though, just bin saving for a new car too , iv put aside a 1k for it, getting a drive shaft changed at the same time, ya think this will be enough? thanks for the help

Sorry to hijack thread but I've just found out I've got a drive shaft leak on my '98 spider - any ideas on how painful it might be ?
