1300 step front with burnt valve

Stick a 2.0 in it?

The heads respond to some mild traditional porting work, but go steady as they are soft alloy! Check all the valve guides are in good nick as are the seats. Check the head is compleltely flat - you might want a light skim to clean it up and get a bit more compression, providing someone hasn't been there before you, although there is a lot of meat on the heads. Clean up the top of the block very carefully and check it's flat.
Biggest performance boost is new cams from somewhere like Alfaholics or ClassicAlfa. Make sure you get a decent head gasket like Reinz - and not an Ebay special. You can also check that the cam sprockets are not too worn and replace the top timing chain while you are in there.

, the 2.0 did cross my mind but everyone seems to do so - I'll keep the 1300 in there for now.I read on alfabb that fitting a standard 2.0 cam to a 1300 gives good performance increase? Perhaps I will try that.

Just check with someone in the UK before you do. Remember most info on Alfabb is US based and many of their engines were detuned from the factory so they get quite excited about sticking some "Euro Spec" cams in them!!!
