red key dilemma

Hi all . I've just picked up a beauty of a fiat coupe 16v turbo , but , unfortunately there is no red master key and im thinking of adding an extra 35 bhp with an eprom chip . Is it safe to mess about with the ecu without the master key ? if not what is the best way around this without paying a small fortune at the local dealer ?

Not sure if it'd work for yours but looks like a low cost option.
