Does anyone remember the concept Brera? It looked awesome. Nevermind the scissor doors - they didn't add to the look - but the car was low and long - roughly the same dimensions as a BMW 6-series.

Then the production Brera came out and all the motoring journos say it looks just like the concept - NO IT BL00DY WELL DOES NOT - IT LOOKS LIKE A 147 SOMEONE SAT ON.

Grrr... makes me mad. mad

Wasn't that the EU that killed off the alfa V6?

159 looks awesome. Brera looks frumpy.

Brera looks "okay", but compared to the concept (i.e. what we were expecting / hoping to see) it's pretty average. Can't understand the motoring journos working themselves up into a lather over it.

159 looks very nice and the 8C is sex on wheels.

I think the press went bonkers over it because they really want Alfa to succeed.

Everyone loves Alfa, but don't you wish they'd take the trouble to switch to rear-wheel drive?

8C?

As much as many on PH like to pretend, not many of us on here are racing drivers. I really don't think that switching to RWD would make the slightest bit of difference to their main customer base. Most people in family saloons and hot hatches don't care to get 'the back end out' on roundabouts. I can see your point for the juicier machines, but that takes me back to the 8C.

Not so sure phil. Admittedly, most won't get the back end out, but it would combat torque steer on the hairy models and give the cars more kudos, whether drivers take advantage or not. Lexus took the trouble... not sure if that's a good example.. actually pretend I didn't say that.

FWD suits hot hatches better IMO, but the brera really ought to be RWD.

Got to agree with you bloke, as far as saloon cars go, the 159 looks the bollox. Cannot for the life of me understand why some poeple choose a 3 series bmw over it. Also, their interiors are way ahead of anything else. Brera, well it's maybe a foot too tall, and pretty heavy by all accounts. Nothing else like it though.

Was all lined up to buy a new Brera, against all my principles (hate depreciation). The saving grace was that we waited 9 months for demos to arrive, instead of placing an order.
First look was ok, but not a stunning as concept or pictures.
First drive was a huge let down, poor steering, zero rear legroom and awful performance and noise.
Dealer ordered a Diesel demonstrator, and was surprised when I initially refused to go out on the test drive. "All our customers love the engine" Not this one. frown 3.0 V6 RIP frown
