Might be a RIBE key. These were used by Alfa / FIAT and other Euro manfrs as an alternative to TORX (which is American, and therefore an inch-based system). Then again, many rock-apes have hammered a Torx or hex key into a RIBE socket. Also, Alfa backed down on RIBE and started supplying replacement sump plugs with ordinary metric Hex sockets (8 mm as suggested). So it could be just about anything, and even if you've got the right tools, you may end up with a hammer and chisel, or Stillson wrench to get the bugger out. You wanted a simple answer? - sorry! It's all part of the fun of owning an Alfa!
