I'm still on the hunt for my perfect GTV.

Now, I currently have a 145 2.0TS Cloverleaf, and was considering a 2.0 GTV, as the running costs would be about the same. The V6 keeps drawing me in though.

If I'm spending around £100 on fuel a month already on a 2.0TS, how much more in cash am I likely to spend if I switched to the V6?

Are the servicing costs much more? The one I looked at today has just had the belts done (at 67k), and also the fiddlies on the rear suspension.

Is there any stings I should know about with 2.0 vs 3.0 on a year 2000 car for road tax?

Cheers
P.

My TS (which as far as im aware is a good healthy engine) returns 25mpg on a relaxed run and about 20 when pushing on! V6 figures really arent far off that.
My figures for the V6 are:

Town: ~18mpg
Pushing on: ~20mpg
Cruising: mid-20's
Trackday: feck all

The main difference in economy is likely to be the "town" figure which I'd hope would be higher for the TS engine.

Itll either cost VERY little more or maybe even the same on petrol (as mad as it sounds!)

V6 is a more robust engine and is cheaper to service in the long run as you dont need to change the belts as often (and when you do its cheaper). Rear suspension on the V6 is also better than that on the TS (uses rose joints) so the bushes dont wear out so quick (at 400 odd quid a time!).

Id definatley say the V6 is the better proposition, infact the only downside is that the TS is supposed to be the better balanced drive.
Maybe your themostat needs doing? TS Thermostat Replacement.

I get about 32mpg on average per tank (doesnt vary much) and I dont hang about. Must be just below 30mpg if you really try down backroads etc, 35mpg on motorway (dont really do much better for fuel on long runs). The aircon seems to cost around 10-15miles per 400/450 miles.

Agree with running costs probably being cheaper on the V6 (offset the petrol). My Spring pan arms need doing now.

Forgive me for being a complete numpty. Having settled down in a new job, i might be considering an upgrade. Alfa's are growing on me. Can someone explain "T-Spark" to me? Is it just the engine like a zetec to a ford, or a vtec to a honda, or is it something else. Apologies for Newbie question again.

My 147 GTA averages 21mpg according to the computer, with 75% being stop start driving in town. The remaining 25% is rather spirited.

Its all good until you need to change the spark plugs, because then you have to buy 8 of them, and they are bloody expensive (over 100 quid from a dealer!) but then again you only need to do them every 60000 miles smile

HTH
..but don't worry too much, you can get genuine NGKs for about half that if you shop around.

I have a 1.6 T-spark and you would think that would be economical.....NOPE!

I am lucky to get around 32mpg. In my experience of 1600 engines that is not particularly good.

However yesterday it shocked me. When to Buxton and back, i am based in Kent so did around 500 miles and it worked out at 38-39mpg. Amazing!

Normal road use it is paints though.

Ever heard of a guy called Tim Fryer? He used to be the editor of Mine and Quarry.

Not familiar with Tim. But I'm sure our Ed' knows him.

I was indeed lurking in the press office around lunchtime. The lure of the pork pies & chutney was too much.

My favourite was the Rammer Breakers booth, with their BBQ speciality - The "Ram-burger". Marketing genius.

Small world, indeed.

My 1.6 TS always returns an average of at least 41 MPG (currently 42.6) and i drive a round trip from Bristol to Bournemouth each weekend in (just) under an hour and a half each way (76 miles in 90 mins on A and B-roads doesn't give much chance to be under 4000 rpm!). Its not as good as the diesel i had before but better than i was expecting!

WOW!

Our fleet in either 1.6TS or 1.9 Diesels and not a single 1.6 will get that much, you saw my post further up and i think that is one of the best ever in the company.

Company cars are always much faster than privately owned ones though, especially in 2nd gear, and the red line is only advisory when you're borrowing it!

Seriously though, i don't often have anyone else in the car with me and don't carry much load so i suppose its not exactly struggling!
