guilia transmission lock
Discussion
car had 4 yr service done independent garage as out of warranty on sat 3 weeks after service got in and started fine but says service shifter and locked in p mode AA called but needs recovery-s this due to serviced at indy garage who could not turn off maintenance expired code or deeper problem?
just some info i picked up along the way, discussing alfa's in general (with owners but also one or two specialists that i frequent)
its a long shot but some models have a manual emergency park release cable. reports differ as to the location - some say in the boot, some say under the gaitor, some say under the rear air vents,
There is a procedure for releasing the selector if no cable is fitted but it involves screwing a "special" alfa bolt into the transmission which then releases the shift lever at the gearbox end.in fact it manually operates an analog lever which forces a mechanical shift into neutral which you'll need for loading
no idea which models got the cable but it definitely was fitted to some - i've seen the parts list - so worth checking in your own handbook to see if yours has it.
this box has many applications, alfa are not the only owners encountering this problem. the growing consensus seems to be glitches deeper in the software/electronic control module

That’s a lot of money for the cheapest, nastiest feeling thing that you touch in a Giulia!
