Hi Guys,

New boy here.

I thought this would be as good a place as any to ask for a little feedback/help.

My mother has recently offered me her Alfa red R-reg Alfa 146 2.0 ti to me as she just doesn't drive it and it has spent the best part of a year in the garage without seeing the light of day.

It's been garaged from new and therefore is in pretty good nick. Especially as it only has around 26,000 on the clock.

I remember driving it a few times when she first bought it, and whilst it isn't the quickest car around, I do remember it being a great deal of fun, very responsive and sounded lovely when you got the revs up.

I'm aware that it'll need a bit of TLC given its hardly been driven over the past 5-6 years, will need to alternator etc looking at but I was wondering if there is anything else that I should look out for?

Thanks in advance.

A great little gift and VERY rare car now...particularly in the condition I'd expect this to be in.

You must have the belts, idlers and tensioners replaced...all of them! I'd also suggest a variator and water pump whilst the mechanic is in there...so you're looking at roughly £4-500 for that lot.

It'll need an oil change and the tyres might not be at their best either.

Having said all that, this car needs saving and enjoying.

I had a 146ti !
I enjoyed owning it and that twinny is an amazing little engine. Handled like a weeble though and needed all the wishbones sorting.
Rare car indeed now, sold it to who I thought would use it but in hindsight I suspect they wanted the alloy topped twinspark for a project...

Eta easiest oilchange you’ll ever do on a car, suck the oil out the dipstick with a pela pump then reach under the front to unscrew the filter and fit the new one. Top up and away you go. My tea was still hot at the end of it!

As wrinx says, prepare to replace a good amount of engine related things, all belts, variator, oil, probably spark plugs if they havent been done, also, all filters, and check various rubber hoses for drying cracks etc...
