They're not cheap to run, and consumable costs can be high but they're great cars with one of the best sounding six cylinder engines ever made. I spent two and a half grand on mine last year, and that's without anything drastic going wrong, it was just a major service and some serviceable components needing renewing, not including insurance, tax, fuel etc. If I wanted it to A1 standard, I could easily spend that again.

If you get a good one from an enthusiast it should come with a stack load of receipts as they tend to get work done in advance of any problems developing. That will give you some piece of mind that its been looked after but you will still need to have a 'reserve fund' in case something does go wrong.
It would be unfair to call GTA's unreliable. They do however require an owner who wont really hesitate in getting all scheduled service work done and to replace any worn out parts as and when required.
If you want to run a GTA on a tight budget I would say dont bother. You would be better off finding another car. Only problem is, I cant think of anything similar that is half as nice to drive then the GTA. The engine is just awesome.
Dont just look at a 147 though. Theres the 156 GTA and the V6 GTV. All three are great cars and 156's and GTV's are selling for slightly less that the 147's.
