Help with a 156 V6
Discussion
Will put it in for a service, plugs as well but still in two minds... Sound comes and goes, but revs freely, and is smooth between all gears..
Also just had a new MOT put on it... Just don't know if I am just going to burn money on it
, but every petrol head should own an Alfa once right, oh and that loverly V6 sound...

They are lovely cars but will have odd things to look for at this ages - like anything.
Mine has assorted little faults that really don't matter and certain parts are looking a little tired at 125k - Probably not a sensible choice of car, but sensible is overrated. Webuyanycar will give me £125 for it: they don't know what they are missing!

This is mine.
It has recently been retired from daily use and is now in storage.
It's done 60,000 miles, is immaculate and has a trade value of between £300 and £500. Private sale price would be £1000, but the belt needs doing.
At these sort of prices, it's just not worth selling. So I will keep it tucked up and will come back to it one day.
They are a really lovely drive. I've had a couple of Alfas with the 3.2 V6, but the 2.5 is sweeter, sounds better and revs more cleanly.
Pretty much my favourite car of all time.

I have sweetened up mine with a few carefully chosen mods such as a strut brace which tightens up the front improves turn in and reduces inner tyre wear. big difference. also got crunching noise which was anti roll bar bushes and droplink wear. remedied with a second hand GTa roll bar and poly bushes/new drop links. now it really turns in well and doesnt wallow around the corners.
there really is something about these cars they have so much soul missing mine already...gave it to my brother for a year...

any thoughts on the noise??
Over bumps? Maybe ARB drop links.
Does it disappear when braking?
Maybe rattly pads.
Creaking noise over bumps?
Maybe front suspension top arms.
Metallic ticking, but only when cold?
Exhaust manifold blowing.
It's an old Alfa. Could be a hundred different things. But if it is intermittent, then it doesn't sound likely to be a major issue.
Give it a whirl. For a few hundred quid it's an awful lot of car.
Expect crap brakes, negligible ground clearance and hopeless steering lock.
Demisting and ventiation aren't up to much.
FWD handling isn't in the same league as an E36 BMW.
But the cabin, the style and that engine more than make up for it.

Very nice. I considered one in that colour with tan interior. It was very clean and tidy but way over priced + £490 a year tax!It has recently been retired from daily use and is now in storage.

Mine a bit too scruffy to be a future classic without serious spending, though I probably plan to run it until it completely falls apart - as you say they are really not worth much.
Front anti roll bar bushes are a fairly common item to wear, mine need doing now. A bit rattly when driving low speed in a straight line, goes away on bends and too quiet to hear once over about 70 kph depending on road surface, sound like the same thing?
Check if the anti roll bar moves easily from side to side without it being loaded up, so either reach under with it on the ground or jack the front so both wheels are off the ground.
