So yesterday I made the mistake of cleaning my car. That meant that today something was bound to go wrong. And it did. My gear lever isn't returning back to the middle of the box.

Has anyone had this before? Is it something as simple as a spring broken or am I looking at a big bill?

I had the same problem and you will find its the 'top hat' bush, cheap fix think the bush is only a few quid but its the fitting costs the cash.

Thanks Mr Keen, do you know where to find the top hat bush? Is it a mechanic or home job?

I will be honest and say i left mine in to get done, Takes less than a hour to do so not that expensive but it is something you could do yourself if handy with spanners.

There is a thread on alfaowner forum (there is even a walk through on how to do it somewere on there and will try to dig it out for you and link it)

That's great, thanks - looks like something I can sort easily enough then.

I'll get the bushes on order and let you know how I get on.

Its an easy fix and the parts are very cheap. Hard to believe that it makes such a difference but the gear linkage will feel like new afterwards. Plenty of advice on Alfaowner and possibly alfadriver sites. Good luck with it.
