Lancia Delta - how do they compare to VW GTI?
Discussion
If you're talking modern GTi vs Evo, I would still go Evo. In terms of outright ability, modern hot hatches are quicker, but if driving experience is important to you, the Lancia is virtually untouchable. Personally I found the Megane 265 Cup gets close. Focus ST was not bad. I haven't tried the most recent Focus RS but my guess is it might feel a touch blunt in comparison, though still a desirable bit of kit.

That's what I man sir.I've had 2 of each from the same era (late 80's early 90's). an 8v golf a 16v golf, 8v integrale and 16v integrale Evo. There is no comparison between the lancia's and VW's, the Detlas a massively capable homologated rallycars for the road, with the VW's being nice hot hatches. No contest IMO. Still have my Evo, but only just

Owned both 8v and a 16v (gti engineering special) lovely cars, but having owned an 8v Integrale, and now an Evo, the Golfs pale into insignificance.
The handling is so taut, the ride is shocking though go over a matchstick and your teeth drop out, well nearly
The car can be surprisingly docile, but drop the hammer and it's a different beast. The chassis is so good, the steering so communicative. It's like your part of the car.
I also owned a ur Quattro, and at the time thought that was the best car I'd ever own, the little Delta took its crown. If your planning on motorway mileage, then this car is about as aerodynamic as a mattress, but get it on the twisties and nothing much can live with it.

You might find that the 'grales now in existence are the better ones that have been looked after. About 5-10 years ago, there were a fair few grotty ones about, but the unloved ones have to some extent wasted away. Personally, I would be seeking a privately owned car rather than a dealer though this is a good deal harder. Meeting the owner can tell you a lot.
I mentioned earlier that modern hot hatches are quicker but forgot to point out that a mild stage 1 tweak can restore the balance in your favour. An anecdote, just for fun: I spotted a 996 turbo on a motorway flyover (one of those twisty clover-leaf ones) and fancied a bit of a play. He saw me gaining from about 100 yds back and the Porsche did its trademark squat-on-the-haunches thing as he put the hammer down. It was all over in a matter of seconds, me flashing a grin at him as I passed. The look of absolute horror on his face was priceless.
I honestly don't believe there is another road car out there that is as much fun.

My old 8v is up for sale on Ebay, but it seems having double the valves.
Best part is the Ap racing calipers are still on it.

Ow, I ran a 155 Q4 this sunday: it's a LDI underneath innit?
215 chipped brakes and loud.
I liked it.
Engine is same as Fiat Coupe 16vt/Delta Evo 2, transmission internals are same as integrale, externally it has some minor differences to fix it to the chassis/floorpan which is Coupe/155/156/Tipo etc. Everything else is different.215 chipped brakes and loud.

If the ECU has been chipped it should be pushing out about 240 - 250 bhp, they were around 200 standard.
