Any CLASSIC Fiat 500 experts around?

I just received my new (to me) fiat 500 L from Italy. Been restored. Looks superb...

Question: heater 'on' means super strong smell in the cabin (petrol / burnt oil) which gives me a headache within minutes.

Is it normal?

Can it be cured?

With the heater on, all that happens is that some of the cooling air from the cowling over the engine is vented into the cabin.
If you are getting a strong petrol\oil smell then I'd look so see if the carb is leaking petrol which is dripping down onto the cooling vanes of the cylinders (inside the cowling) or your rocker cover\pushrod tubes are leaking oil down to the same place.

Saying that proper 500s do tend to have a certain (nice) aroma to them.
