Alfa 147 Rear Brake Pad Removal
Discussion
Hiya
I am trying to replace the rear brake pads on my partners Alfa 147 04 reg 1.6. However the lower calliper bolt is obstructed by one of the two arms that connect to the bottom hub assembly. There appears to be no way of getting a socket or spanner to the bolt head without removing the entire hub.
I have searched many forums, but i can't find any answers to this problem.
Can anyone please advise me on if the hub has to be removed or if there is an easier method to remove the calliper.
Many thanks for any help.

Are you trying to remove the wrong bolts? There shouldn't be any problems with access - it's the two smaller bolts on the slider you need to remove, not the bigger caliper mounting bolts. There's a good guide here:

You might also want to pop over to http://www.alfaowner.com and ask the same question in the forums there, I've had a number of questions answered already and I only got my alfa/registered on the forums this week.
I actually have the same problem as the OP thought he had because I'm replacing the discs and want to remove, or at least pivot down the pad carrier. The top bolt just and just came out with liberal amounts of Plusgas and a 12" long 15mm ring spanner I usually use for the service belt tensioner on my P38 RR but the same tactic isn't working for the bottom one because of the obstruction...
Is there any way to get a ring spanner in without detaching the suspension? I think an open ended spanner is going to nuke the corners... I have a long 15mm open ended spanner en route as a last resort and one of those Metrinch spanners which drive on the wall of the hexagon instead of the corners... but it's standard length, though I can always resort to popping a tube over one end, a 21mm tubular plug spanner for instance!
All advice gratefully received...

Lol. I also bought the Laser windback tool. A major god send. Both sides done in under 30 mins.
