You are probably familiar with Adrian Flux car insurance (as they advertise on just about every performance car website and owners club sites).

I have been insured with them a number of times and was with them for insurance on my Honda S2000 up until a couple of weeks ago.

I tried to change my insurance with them to my new car, Mercedes SLK55 AMG and was first told they could not insure it and they then came back with a quote of £2000.00 (I was paying £560 on the S2000.

Following my laughter and questioning of this figure I had no option but to change insurance company.

Here comes the funny bit.

I have gone with Sheilas Wheels at £590(yes a little embarassed and did not know they even insured blokes, but a saving of more than £1400).

I have 28 years no claims bonus, have insured with Adrian Flux several times and recent cars include TVR Tuscan, TVR Tamora, Alpina Roadster, Porsche Boxster S, etc., so not exactly a novice.

So when you see the next advert for Adrian Flux - Try Sheilas Wheels !

Any response by Adrian Flux welcomed !

Moved away from Fluxey a month ago myself as the new quote for the CLS oil burner came in at double the price of the existing V8 S5?
Made no sense...

It seems to be happening with alot of insurance companies.
I was with Swinton for 15 years until my premium went from £500 to £980 for the same car!
They told me that for every £1 spent on car insurance, £1.20 was spent by the insurers on claims etc.
I told them to stick it & went with Swift Cover for £480.

Quotes vary wildly, especially if there are any changes from stock that might influence performance, desirability or security. Got a new bike recently, and quotes ranged from 700 to 7,000 (seriously, on a 14k bike!) and Mr Flux was the cheapest... My experience is that "computer says no" is less of an issue for that kind of specialist broker, and my policy looks pretty good compared to others too. As with anything, check that you're comparing apples with apples and - like the man on the telly says - NEGOTIATE!!! In my experience, most insurers will drop their drawers to beat a price if the risk is low.

The SLK55 AMG is standard - no mods.
Nothing else on my policy has changed so I am comparing apples with apples
I tried to negotiate but they are not interested if you are an existing customer.
I agree they can be competitive, but only if a new customer!
£2000 is rediculous compared to £590, especially when I was only paying £560 on the S2000.
Also I had to temporarily change back to insure the S2000 with Sheilas Wheels for a couple of weeks (due to delayed delivery of the SLK55) and the premium was £100 higher than on the SLK, which I was not surprised as the S2000 probably has a worse record for accidents and theft.

Considering their prescence on all these forums Ive found them to be way overpriced for a firm who advertise as a specialist insurer. I came from my S4 v8 (£650) to a VXR8 and they wanted £1500! both group 20, went over to shielas wheels for £800.. I did give them to oppertunity to price match or make a bit of a concession but they werent interested.

Pasted from the other forum:

Hello, This sounds like a bit of a strange one. I can only assume the difference in premium is down to the car value as your driving experience sounds fine. But that still doesn't really explain the massive hike in premium. I know its a bit late as you have sorted out insurance elsewhere but if you want to PM me your name and post code I'll have a look and see whats gone on.

Just to balance things out - Adrian Flux have been very reasonable these past two years on my SL - we'll see if they remain so come July.

Something odd obviously goes on - I was insured with them for a couple of years several years ago (SLK230 iirc) and then suddenly the premium shot up on renewal - no reason. I then moved to Admiral. However come SL time they were cheapest. Two year cycle.....?

Tried Adrian Flux on renewal of my 1992 500SL, quite a bit dearer than present broker, Lancaster, do not hear much of them on this site but they have been consistently the best deal on my TVR S2, Chimaera and now my 500SL. Give them a try.

Just had a bike renewal from Flux, £360 from £260 the previous year (when they were cheapest), a quick shufty got a quote of £185! After adding cover for clothing so it was Apples for Apples, ended up paying £235, that's a fair saving.

When I called them to stop the renewal I got the usual "Oh we can probably match that". Well why don't you then, when you send the renewal through was my question? They did exactly the same with my car renewal, the upshot being they have now totally lost my business.

They rely on people being lazy and just paying the extortionate renewal prices without checking round. The moral being, ALWAYS check around as you'll almost certainly get a better deal these days by moving..
