What year?

Hello, could anybody tell me what year Mercedes got their act together and built the E class (E320d actually)as it should have been built? Had a 2003 and it was not up to Merc standards of old. Thanks Cliff.

2007 was the mid-generation facelift year, easily spotted by the deeper more pronounced V in the chrome grille, and the more V-shaped front bumper. Facelift cars apparently have thousands of changes, electrical and mechanical, to increase reliability - mine is a 2008 and has certainly been above average for reliability over 35k miles and 2 1/2 years.

From 2006, the start of the face lift. Ironed out a load of electrical faux pas and they dropped SBC and replaced it with ABR.

Basically look for one without SBC.

Agree with the above - although late non-facelifts (late 04 and 05) benefited from a lot of fixes including hand-fitted looms (previously robotised).

So buy a facelift or a late pre-facelift. I've got a Feb 05 pre-facelift on 98k with ALL the toys and everything is fine.

2005 and up are supposed to be better from a corrosion point of view.

Galvanising of all steel panels was brought in around late 2002/early 2003, so cars built (not necessarily sold or registered) after this time should have little or no rust if they've been treated well.
