congratulations!!

what is the full spec (inc mileage, etc)? Did you get any warranty in the end?

i think you bought it at the right time also, in my personal opinion I think the sl55 will appreciate in price actually over the next 3-6 months - mainly because its a convertible of course. Also black is generally the most desirable colour. Look forward to an awesome summer wink- just be careful when its wet and try not to switch off ESP/traction control unless bone dry!

S3th well done looks stunning. I have just sold my black one and brought a silver one, love them, go like sh#* and the sound is to die for.

Just hope you don't have the same problems as me, both have had to go back under warranty for leaking roofs :-(

s3th mines a 55 plate. Service from dealers is always a problem, mine seem good that is why I travel 45 minutes instead of using the local *"%*&$! but you still need to keep on at times to get what you want.

How is your new toy??

Enjoy it, they are absolutely immense! I have had mine 2 weeks now and am finding any excuse to go for a drive.

Definately recommend having the resonators removed from the exhaust system though- the sound is truely epic!!!

No worries- they are a pair of additional silencers towards the back of the car. Having them cut out and straight pipes put in place transforms the sound of the car completely.

I dont think it would effect the warranty though as generally exhausts are a "wear and tear" item which isn't covered anyway. Best to double check but as they are only silencers it shouldnt be a problem.

Costs about £100-£150 at any custom exhaust place.

I can also add to that, there are primary silencers and cats and secondary silencers and cats (pairs of each) hence 4 cats in total and 4 silencers (2 on each side), the rear silencers are commonly removed on the 55 engines and the sound is amazing, other option is to remove secondary cats and rear silencers (which is what i did) and replace with a custom X-pipe which any exhaust place can do so sound is even louder and raspier,

important points - sensors (O-2 sensors i think) are on the primary cats, so as long as you are only fiddling with secondary cats and/or rear silencers then there are no problems, no warning lights, etc.

warranty is a contentious issue, I don't have any but I suppose the only to check is to ask the warranty people before any modification to see what they say i suppose

hi guys hope you all been well.

I collected the car from the dealership today i was well happy that i was finally taking it home.
however my problems had already begun withing 5 minutes of driveing away from the dealership, when i found a bit of open road i put my foot down and the car was performing as it should, after few seconds the car held back when i put my foot down again i noticed the car was under powering by a high amount. My instant thoughts was the superchargers pump has failed as they commonly do but after a few seconds the power was kicking in, i rang the dealer up and told him instantly and he said it could be the battery in the boot maybe the cause as it was not charged i checked the memory and it was coming up with the battery symbol in red, i had a go at him saying why did you release the car with 1 battery being flat he said the technicians believed it would charge up i said ill call tomorrow but im going to get it checked it out by an amg specialist local to me.

i took the car straight there and it seemed the charger was kicking and cutting of at random moments, he believed its the pump but its worth getting the battery changed which the dealer confirmed they will do as they were aware of it and the fact i have warranty. another key worry i was having was the whining noise was rather loud than expected the salesman said its the kompressor.
what i want to know is would the pump make the engine management light go of and what should i do because Ive basically got a amg vehicle which chooses to drive with full 517 bhp when it wants to and goes into safe mode when it wishes to, and is the whining noise suppose to be loud it sounds like power steering pump is failing.

if I were you. (whilst i know this is ruining your fun), I'd get it straight back to them, and firmly and civilly tell them you are very very unhappy and you are leaving the car there and want it back, fully rectified within a reasonable timeframe.

I'd also push for a decent courtesy car until fixed and satisfied.

I've had similar happen and its very very annoying and deflating.

Its been a hell of a day. No1 from the dealership which i purchased the car from will talk to me as "they are busy" and i haven't received a single phone call back.
i took the car to a local dealership which re really good and i have good relationship with, straight away they said that the car should not have been sold to me in the way it is and my treatment is unacceptable they contacted the dealer and are helping me fight my case.
they have booked the car in for tomorrow for a check up as they also believe the multi-point check that was done was not done right or to standards.I gave up calling the dealership and went straight to my solicitor who is taking his steps i will want a refund and to be compensated for all the aggro.

I was in a similar position once, the crux of the compensation thing came down to "giving the dealer reasonable chance to resolve the issues" so be aware as you proceed.

Best of luck.

Wow sorry to hear this, its an absolute joke to be honest, I cannot believe they sold the car without even basic checks like driving the car themselves to make sure it was ok,

did the power cut as the engine was warming (say after 5-10 mins hard driving) or immediately, In general - intercooler pump symptoms are loss of power after hard driving and also note that no management light usually comes up so the problems with this car could be worse,

In my opinion based on what you've said, the dealership don't have a leg to stand on, please keep us informed about developements,

well the sales manager finally called me back and i was less than impress.
he said its not there fault a problem can occur a any point i argued saying your technicians are useless the multi point check confirms the brake pads were fine but only to be spotted by an outside MOT to find the pads were not fine
he said if there is a problem we will repair but no refund, i said no i just brought the car and im already having problems, we argued for a while and all i was getting was him laughing on the phone saying that my research into the trading standards are wrong and his exact words were "tough deal with what we give you"
i'm sending an email of complaints to head office and im dropping te car of to my local dealership who were shock to after i told them and they are on my side saying its not on the car is getting checked tomorrow and we shall see from there
I'm put of the car i even discovered today that SBC brake is not working
