E320cdi Sport Engine Diagnostic Light On

Hello all,

Three days ago I treated myself to a 58plate E320 cdi Sport. After refuelling this afternoon the engine diagnostic light came on. The performance of the vehicle isn't affected so it hasn't tripped into safe mode.

I've tried stopping and starting the engine several times but the light remains on.

Any ideas/suggestions? If there's a quick fix I didn't want to have to take it back to the dealer.

I have to say its a dissapointing start to Mercedes ownership, if I wanted engine managment woes I'd have bought a Vectra!

I assume with your car being so new it's been serviced at Merc and will be covered by mobilo, give them a call and theyll come to your door/workplace/roadside and have a look at it whilst you have a cuppa, same thing happened to me with engine management light and they had it fixed within 30 minutes (dampness in plugs from car being steam cleaned at dealer then left to sit for a week), use them, that's what we pay our ridiculous main dealer service costs for!

Had exactly the same happen to me a few months ago - same model and year - twice.
It was diagnosed by the main dealer who supplied the car as a failed crankshaft sensor. Didnt know that such a thing even existed.
Apparantly this sensor tells the management system that it is OK to start the engine without damaging the crankshaft, that it is in the right position or something like that.
I was advised by them to drive the car in provided it ran OK, and they did the job whil I waited - it seemned that a number of these cars had the proplem which was solved by fitting a revised version of the sensor.
Have a chat with your main dealer.
Nice motors arent they, and quick for a two tonner.
