Just got my 1992 500SL and am delighted with it. Due to knee problems it has replaced my TVR Chimaera, totally different cars so useless to compare them. But I think a wind deflector would improve the top down enjoyment, especially for my wife. Does anyone have one for sale at a reasonable price or know where I could get one.

They can be bought from the dealer still but probably cost £200. They come up on Ebay fairly regularly. I assume it is not in the boot stowed behind the carpetted panel at the front? It also makes a huge difference when used with the windows up, you can cruise at way in excess of 100mph in relative comfort. I prefer not to use it and keep the windows down--that's the point of a soft top!--but women never seem to see it that way!

Hi, r129sl,
thanks for good info which helped in my decision to buy my 500sl and I am very pleased. Agreed with your comments re top down but wife's hairdo costs considerably more than mine as I cut my own hair. But solo in the car, it's to the limit, and so far, sheer joy. The car is a replacement for my TVR Chimaera which I sold due to left knee problems. No criticism, it is not a TVR, I take my enjoyment of appreciating the particular car and this car is sheer delight and although I miss my TVR I am more than happy with my choice of car.

Good search terms on Ebay are r129, w129 and Mercedes 129. These also come up all the time on Ebay.de if your German is up to it.

My Missus is the same.

Fittd my new windbreak, deflector to be correct, and what a difference. Every SL owner should have one. Amazing, this car just gets better and better.
