Bit of a problem 'possibly'. I was driving back from work in my CLK430 this afternoon, stuck behind someone clearly terrified of what might happen if they use this weird magical 3rd gear thing 
when a straight patch of road opened up. So i put my foot down to pass him. Now the car was warmed up and i never rag my car. I blipped the throttle to pass and the car accelerated away no problem, as it always does, when out of nowhere someone clearly hooked up a 4 tonne caravan to the back! At least that's what it felt like. Engine management light came on and lost all power so immediately took my foot off the gas and continued to 'coast' past the other car. Pulled over at first chance, couldn't see anything obvious so hobbled back home. Went outside later to have another look and the engine management light is now off again and it's running like a dream?? anyone have experience / knowledge of what this might be?

Had a similar thing happen a few years ago.
Management light flicked on and off a few times so called in to a workshop, but nothing untoward found. Then later the same day overtook a couple of cars and dash lit up like a Christmas tree as everything came on at once ! Engine went into ‘limp home’ mode and face went red as cars I’d just swooned by then had to pass me doing 10mph… Managed to get to a workshop half a mile away as luck would have it – but then everything just died. Bear in mind this was a while ago – but from memory I seem to recall although I’d turned the engine off, I couldn’t get it out of drive / key out / roof closed / or started again – even managed to get a puncture. Pride and joy just expired before my eyes…
Turned out to be the distributor regulator (no idea), a 40 quid part.
I guess the engine management indicator could go off for any one of a thousand reasons – but if it happened to me again I’d take it to a dealer soon as (not be fobbed off again), and take it very easy in the meantime. Good luck
