SLK 55AMG - service advice/opinion

I am looking at buying the above at the moment from a Mercedes dealer. It comes with Full MBSH according to the dealer who has furnished the folloiwng details of the SH so far:

Date of first reg – 05 – 09 – 2005



1st Service: 01 – 03 – 2008 @ 16566 miles



2nd Service: 25 – 03 – 2009 @ 20480 miles

The car has done 23k miles at this point.

Is it normal for a car to not need any service for 2.5 years from new? It is of course being sold with full warranty etc, but just wanted someone's knowledgable opinion please...

It's a full history in that is fully shows all of the services, the first of which was carried out very very late.

" The car is on what’s called ‘condition based service’. This means the car tells you when it needs servicing, depending how many miles and the way it is driven etc. "

Yes the servicing will be condition based, however it is also limited to 2 years
so the first service was late. In my opinion not too much of an issue.
Call the servicing agents and get a full update on what they have done to the car.

Avoid.

No matter how many guarantees from the dealers (they want to shift this car) you will have issues when selling it.

this is a mercedes dealer selling the car with mercedes warranty.

Another Mercedes dealer I spoke to just now said that the 2.5 year is a gap which shouldn't have been there....the car was late and thats that....

so....I am disappointed a Mercedes dealer would lie to me....and I am now going to tell them to fark off....

My car tells me it needs serviced approx every 10k miles, not sure on time limits if the car isn't used very much. Check out classifieds if you are in the market for one, my car is on there and considerably cheaper than the one you are looking at.

P.S. May also be worth seeing the service book as that has a part which notes the ASSYST reading at the point of service, might be interesting to see what it was reading at the first service! Hope this helps. G9

No oil change in 2.5 years from new - dont even think about it

The sales manager called me this afternoon. He assured me that the cars tell you when servicing is needed but admitted that it was slightly overdue. When I called it a gap in the SH he corrected me and assured me it was not a gap. I told him I would be concerned about resale and he replied well he isn't as he purchased the car and it was fine. I reminded him that he didn't have any risk in that respect but he told me he would always buy it back off me as the largest AMG specialist in the UK. He assured me the car was absolutely fine. I told him I was no longer interested.
So I am back in the market for a sub 30k mile car preferably in black thanks for the comments everyone!

My SLk a 350 has that. The service indicator works of date, and a lot of other things and works out what service you'll need (A B or C) at the time its due, which is a max of a year. So it sounds like something is missing.

If its an MB dealer they should have the full history, including services, original build and recalls/updates.

My slk 55 AMG asks for a service before 10k so cant imagine getting to 16k no matter how slow I drove. Having said that it wont have damaged the car but selling it is tougher.

As a matter of interest Merc changed the servicing intervals from 2 years to
1 year in late 06.

Mine is Oct 07 and needs annual services. Basically oil change, and check updates, etc. The 2 services its had have need £150 and £180. Not excessive to keep FSH and warranty running.

Having done some further research I have now had it confirmed that back in 2005/6 the SLK's were on 10k mile or 2 year servicing schedules. the car I was looking at was 2.5 years without anything though but if the owner can't be bothered to service it even every 2 years I am still avoiding that car having said that I am looking at a car that was registered in Mar 2006, serviced at 10k or so miles in Apr 2007 and then again at 21k miles in Apr 2009. It has done 22k miles now and is showing 7800miles to service. I am happy with that, anyone disagree?

As a potential purchase the SLK55 hits all the right spots with me, but being 6'4" tall I do wonder if its going to be a good fit? Any other tall people drive SLK's?
