My girlfriend wants to buy a slk, early car up to 10k.Whats the best engine to go for,the v6 or a supercharged car.
Do any of the engines suffer from any major problems, are these cars generally reliable.
Any comments welcome.Thanks

If I had £10k to spend, I'd go for the 320, the V6 (or a good cheap 32AMG if you can find one). Quite a lot quicker than the 230K, sounds better too (the 230K can sound like a demented wasp)

We've got a 230K and had no engine problems (touch wood) in 30,000 miles, its now just coming up to 100,000, I think the general consensus is that it's a strong engine.

Other than that, test the roof works perfectly and then test it again! Check for rust in the arches and boot lock area. I've listed all the running costs of ours in my profile, but we are really happy with ours. Its not going to set the world on fire performance-wise, its a cruiser really but is brisk enough, has good space inside and a very good boot with the roof up - its like a little coupe and is brilliant for the winter or not worrying about a soft-top being vandalised.

I've just bought a 320 V6. I don't think that's there's much performance difference between the V6 and the 230k, but is does sound a lot better.

Brilliant cars! You'd get a top notch 320 for 10K, but they're both great.
