I have a 06 CLS 320 CDI - owned since new, with 48,000 miles.

Parked it yesterday at about -1 or -2deg C and when I returned after about 45 minutes there was a vivid green icicle hanging from the underside of the front valance below the n/s headlamp, not far forward of the wheel. First thought was radiator leak, but should it freeze at that tempertaure - I'd have thought not. It leaked again - just a few spots - when I got home. I have checked the water level and it is slightly below the mark, but have never checked it before so no idea whether it has dropped or not. Washer bottle is filled with 50% additive, and that's yellow, so cannot be that.

It's into the dealer on Friday for a service anyway; I've spoken to them and they say they'll have a look, and that the anti-freeze may be green (I'll dip some paper in later to check - the header tank is black, so can't tell by looking). They also mentioned sometimes putting a dye in the air-con system to trace leaks, but it has never had any work done on the air-con - and does the refrigerant freeze at these temperatures?

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

Stephen

What colour screen wash do you put in? Some of theese can be green or can end up green by mixing two types.

The screen wash reservoir is on the n/s. Brim it to the top and check it in the morning. Dont spill any around it when you do it.

This may not be the cause but at least it will eliminate it. Cant think what else it will be? As you say coolant is yellow and i very much doubt its A/C dye very small amounts of this are in the system.
