CLK320 cab Battery

I've just bought a 53 plate CLK, and the battery has gone down. I think it's the original, so it hasn't done badly. However, being new to Mercs, I merely connected up a trickle charger which I've used for years, and it seemed to be taking the charge. A couple of hours later, I checked to see how the charging was going, and was faced with the drivers window down about 2 inches, the o/s rear window fully down, and a clicking noise coming from below the rear window. The charger was also smelling hot! So, I disconnected it immediately, and started to investigate prices of new batteries over the weekend.
Any advice on what type/make of battery to buy? Prices seem to vary from £65 to £130 (MB), 4 or 5 year warranties, lead or calcium or whatever!! And will the new battery cure the window clicking, or will something have to be re-set? The handbook advises how to reset the clock and the windows after battery replacement, so that's ok, as long as the 'clicking' was only due to lack of power. All help/advice gratefully received. Maybe you should disconnect the battery whilst charging. Also once charged and reconnected you need to reset the windows by taking them down and then back up whilst holding the switch and then when closed hold for 10 seconds.
The other issue to look out for is electric seats as these can drain the battery. If you have them adjust the seat to what you want then look under the front and pull the 3 wire plug which powers the seat motors (this does not affect heated seat operation if you have them) from both seats and give it a few days.
The battery type I would use is VARTA which do a range specifically for the MB

When you say switch, what switch are you talking about. Would this affect the adjustment of all of the window closed positions.
