Modifying AMG traction control

I am about to buy an SLK55 AMG and the one criticism I have read in most reviews is that the traction control cannot be switched off entirely and seems unpredictable in its response.

I am a keen driver (and a rally driver) and would like the option to fully disable traction control. Can this be done? If so by who and how much? Thanks.

Turning of the E.S.P system using the switch on the centre console as im sure you know will only partially restrict the traction system. A total switch off can be achieved with a combination of using the trip reset switch and cycling the ignition key. However, this should be approached with exteme caution! Im sure your drving ability is up to scratch but these vehicles are designed knowing E.S.P is installed hense there extreme power delivery, and even in the best hands driving these vehicles on the limit with no E.S.P is more than a handfull. Especially if they have an A.M.G badge on the back!

Once its off then it isnt noticeable on the road and Im a track driver also just not in the slk. It can be fully disabled but only by disabling the ABS, brake assist and ESP as well. Basically you put it into Dyno mode. Drives nice but realistically you would only want to do this on the track.

Thanks for the info - can you explain in more detail how to deactivate it? ie how I cycle the ignition and trip reset? I'm not intending to drive with TC off the whole time but it would be fun on occasions - especially if I compete in the car at sprints, slaloms etc... I'm very used to driving powerful rear drive cars without traction control so don't worry (but thanks for your concern )
