A few W124 questions:)

Been after one for ages, but have had zilch time on my hands to look, until now. I have a couple of questions regarding the saloon.
Firstly Wikipedia lists the width as: 1,740 mm, anyone know if this is from Wing Mirror to Wing Mirror (I am guessing it its)!?
Secondly do the wing mirrors fold in easily, only on my last 2 cars they cannot be fold in (Audi and Mazda)
I only ask, as I have a garage and no on street parking, so I want to make sure it fits!!! If anyone knows of a nice 2.6 190 under 2.5 grand let me know as that would fit no probs!!!
Thirdly!! how much would a average condition M reg 280 saloon in leather (no alloys) be worth in parts? i.e if you were to strip it and sell the bits on club sites and ebay, anyone fancy a guess on the accumulative value of all the parts on car (incl engine)? Are there any bits that get a premium?

The mirrors on the 124`s are pretty much fixed and won`t fold in .
There arn't any bits on the W124 saloons which would be very valuable if you reduced it to it`s component parts , as all consumables are widely and cheaply available from a number of sources including Mercedes main dealers . If the car has a mint leather interior , it may go well on Ebay though .

The car will be £3k in round figures . It`s mint , less than 90k miles with total history etc , full good quality paint and Michelin Pilot tyres . It will come with 12 months Mot , 6 months tax and a service too .
I love the 124 series cars and have run saloons ,estate and coupe variants . I much prefer the 6 cylinder engines , but the 4 pot 220 150bhp is a nice efficient unit too . The cars deserve their reputation for longevity as long as all the basic maintainance is carried out and are a wonderful pice of engineering and design .

I had the same problem - but wanting the slightly longer estate - and did the measuring several times.
In the end I took the decision to buy whatever - and if need be move the garage door a few mm - that was determination ! It is on my driveway anyway so a slight change in security vs protection was not important.
In the end it wasn't needed, although the car does practically touch both the rear and the door. As I also fit several push bikes and a scooter in as well I need 'her in doors' to assist to ensure I get it in the right spot (without taking off the front bumper) - but it is my weekend car only.
I do hope you can fit it in. If you are interested in a 250D with low mileage try Googling DT Mathewson at Thornton Dale. Its been in several months now due to lacklustre marketing (in my opinion - not their normal sort of stock) - but would do £2.5k or less, and is worth a look. And very low mileage - shame I don't want it (although should I swap the 190E rather than look for a nice 230SLK) - umm!

Cheers for all the help advice so far, the model at Mathewsons looks lovely. Shame it is a diesel and so far away from me (I'm in Wiltshire).I'd be tempted by a Diesel model, but I like the smoothness of the petrol.
I think it will just fit in my garage, at the moment I have a Micra and a Mx5 in there and there is a big enough gap to push my bike through , so I am guessing it will just fit, I have measured, but is difficult to take into account door openings! There is on street parking outside (only after 5pm though!)my house, but tbh I like having a garage, a lot less hassle and more secure.
I guess because of the options structure there are some funny speced cars about! Such as a 280 manual, with leather, no alloys and in white! Then there are the original spec tape players and optional arm rests!

The width is 1740mm plus wing mirrors - they add maybe 5 inches or 125 mm. The mirrors don't fold
The older diesels (250/300 D/TD) are sluggish by any standards. The later "Multivalve" diesels from 1993 are more sprightly and are easy to live with - but still slow!
For my money the best cars are the late 280/320s and the E300 Diesel. The estates have self-levelling rear suspension which makes for an excellent ride & lots of carrying capacity

Estate looks good, but is a touch too big and I would have to take my workbench out the garage to make room.
Looking at a couple of saloons this weekend, a 94 320, haven't got high hopes but you can never tell with used cars until you see them in person
