Why can't I find a decent late model (96 or later) R129 SL500 with less than 70k for less than £10k? Really irritating. Am I expecting too much for too little?

Answers on a postcard to : bugger, bugger, bugger.

I suspect the reason is that for anyone who has got a good one, there is no incentive to sell: they are worth so little in the market place and the replacement is so inferior that we might as well hang on to them.

I've seen plenty in classic car auctions recently, the larger engined versions don't seem to be that popular.

I would buy on condition and service history rather than miles. The V8 is a very understressed engine and they wear the miles incredibly well.

R129Sl has it- if I sold my Sl for 10k (which probably is its approximate trade in value), I think that I would have to spend a further 30k to replace it with something that does what it does as well as or better than it does it.

Well guys, I did it. Today I bought an R129 SL500. 1998 61,000 miles. Obsidian black with black leather. FSH and well cared for. It's gorgeous. Can't see me getting rid of it for a long, long time.
