Buying Extended MB Warranty

Hi,

I recently bought a 2005 A150. Car has complete MB Dealer history, first MOT carried out at MB Dealer. Low mileage at 21k.

My question is can I buy an extended warranty from my local MB dealer even though the car is now just out of its original 3Yr period ?

I intend to have the car serviced at this dealer too.

yes you can, you will need an appraisal first, which can be around 200 quid. You will have to put right any issues found at the time usually.

Okay, so far had an appraisal done and all okay. No charge made either for this.

HOWEVER, been quoted £760 for 12months cover. Told it covers just the same as an MB new car warranty.

Thought this was a little on the steep side but open to your comments ?

All Merc warranties are dear, but then so are some of the costs if things go wrong. Changing the starter motor, for example, is an engine out job on an A Class.

This might be blindingly obvious, but there's a guy on one the Mb forums who was caught out by this - you have to have the car serviced at an MB dealer to use the warranty. The block exemption rules that allow you to get the car servicied anywhere only apply to new car warranties.

You could try Warranty Direct for a 3rd party warranty but prob worth paying the premium to be able to get the car fixed at an MB dealer. I think WD will haggle, especially if they think they're going to lose the business.

No worries on the servicing front. The car will be serviced at the MB dealer.

Warranty Direct gave me an online price of £581 for the ExtraCare policy. This has since been reduced by them over the phone to £390. This price includes work done at a franchise dealer.

Do you think MB will deal on the price it's just that I'm a little wary of 3rd party warranty providers (without a justified reason I might add!)
