I need a W124 500E

That nag in the back of my head has returned for a 500E

Anyone got one, whats the lowdown, they all seem to have done millions of miles - anything I should be looking out for and what should I be paying ?

Any input gratefully received.

A friend of mine has his up for sale at the moment, he spent spent months looking throughout Europe (finally found in Germany} for a good one. I know him & his cars & would doubt you could find a better one for the price.

Good price again. Dodgy colour and shiny seats though maybe explain that. I have shiny leather in my 190 and it's not fixable just with some leather cream.

Buy the Mercedes-Benz enthusiast mag. It has all the info you need and the trade / private sales.

A mate of mine sold his there through a dealer.

From my research when I was thinking about one (got a 190e instead) the US owners got generally in the teens which is faintly alarming. Unless you live in the US obviously where it's quite good.

US gallons are only 3/4 of a proper gallon though arent they? i seem to remember a long thread on here a while ago about them suggesting 22-24mpg in normal use.

We met at the 968 get together for the Silverstone Classic last year.

Just bought an E500 Limited today (in Dubai, where I now live). Think it complements the 968 very nicely. I collect it on Wednesday. Can't wait! There's something about early 90's German engineering I find very appealing.

Not really, since (a) I don't commute by car; and (b) I have three cars and tend to use them in rotation.

It's fairly thirsty around town for sure, and unsurprisingly better on long motorway journeys. However, in all honesty I'm not sure what mpg it gives - never tried to calculate it. Plus it's not a car that encourages a sedate driving style.
