I'm thinking of picking up a cheap 190e as a second car and notice there are a fair few at the 1k mark with fsh (alledgedy) and a years mot.
Ive not heard anything particularly bad about these cars but is there anything disasterous i should be looking out for? Admittedly they all have fairly intergalactic milage but i gather they should be pretty good for it....

The problem with a bargain car like those is that if anything goes wrong, you're still fixing a Merc, even if it is old. Parts can be a bit pricey, but they're dead easy to fix. If you know what you're doing with the spanners, they'll be cheap to run. If not, expect a few bills.
Engines are pretty bomb proof. As long as they've been serviced, they should go on forever. Generally speaking, get the biggest engine you can afford to put fuel in. It won't have been working so hard for all of those miles. In addition, big thirsty old cars tend to be dead cheap (see the other thread about the S500 for £10k), as people who are looking for older cars are generally looking for something economical on fuel.
