Does anyone know how much it would cost to get a replacement key for a 2000 CLK55 AMG?

I've found a car I'm interested in buying but the car is for sale with just one key and I would like at least one back up. Presumably this would be a job for an MB main dealer?

Any advice much appreciated.

A phone call to the a main dealer to ask how much for them to supply and programme one. If tooooo expensive ask if you can purchase a used one of e-bay and then arrange for them to re-programme it.
Good luck with the CLK55 AMG, fantastic car.

If its a 'plastic blob'key(as opposed to the oblong shaped flick blade type)then the used ones off ebay CANNOT be recoded and your only option is to price a new one from a MB dealer but they are not cheap.

new keys are between £100 - £150.

you can't but old keys and reprogamme for different cars.

plus be carefull as all cars can only have up to 8 key tracks programmed to the car, once all these are used, you need a new EIS module, and then you looking at £400 plus fitting.

Could be worse. Fiat's master keys cost about £400... and that was for a Cinquecento. You can buy a whole Cinquecento for £400!!

Cheers for the responses chaps. Been quoted £160 for a replacement, which whilst pretty steep was never going to be a deal breaker.

Picking the car up on Thursday and very excited! Will post pictures when I have them.
