All my life I've chosen the roads less travelled.

W116 (Mercedes S-Class, 1972/3 through 1980) are incredibly undervalued.

I've seen a few prime examples GIVEN away or scrapped due to current lack of appreciation.

Iconic - Forceful - A Status Symbol driven by Presidents, Mafiosa, World Leaders (one number i've seen - 181 separate world governments titled these cars as governmental senior staff cars and limousines)

Influenced sedan design worldwide

Performance sufficient to drive with aplomb and enthusiasm in modern traffic - and one of the most parkable/turnable large sedans in the world - (check the tiny turning radius v wheelbase - almost looks like a magic trick when you do a 360 in front of the uninformed, the car looks like a dog chasing its tail)

And... sculptural beauty unsurpassed:

I bought mine for USD $3200 - but I was very picky. 81,000 miles and it is the brochure colors, thus lending provenance IMHO

...but if I could have found an equal one in gangster black... cool

(Recommended viewing: screenclip from "Lost Highway" - check the YouTube of the chase scene where they run down a punk in a red t bird with a black 450SEL - the most intimidating grill ever seen in a rearview mirror.)

AND, if single - I've observed that promiscuous gals in fuzzy sweaters seem to believe my car is always is headed to the mall and smells like a new credit card!

Great cars , unfortunatly we have to pay twice as much as you for petrol which is why they are unapprieciated here .

When I was around 12 years old my dad owned one of these and used it for his 100 mile a day commute. It was a time when the roads were a lot quieter and there were no speed cameras and laser guns etc.Sometimes I would go to work with him and we would set off around 6am.We would arrive at work 50 miles and 30 minutes later in Manchester city centre.

The car met its end one morning when a double decker bus jumped a red light early in the morning as dad had just set off for work.It struck his car side on and pushed it into a lampost, bending the merc into an L shape.Dad walked away from the accident without so much as a scratch.
