hey there guys,

I've posted this in the main gassing forum, but didn't seem to have any luck so here it goes...

I'm being offered a great deal on a S320cdi d6 Brabus (factory from Germany.) Car is an absolute beauty, but I can't seem to find any insurance companies that are even remotely Brabus friendly. To add to that, I'm 23 (with 5 years NCB) and as soon as I mention that; I just get an instant no from the insurance companies.

I just find it frustrating that I can easily get a quote of £800ish for a new 911 turbo, but can't even get my foot through the door for a car half as expensive and half as fast!

I'm sure a lot of folk will have a Brabus conversion on these boards. How did you guys do it in terms of insurance and how are you declaring the car. (ie factory Brabus or mercedes with mods)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I actually cancelled my pre-order for a GTR because I was getting this car, but I'll be left with nothing!

Cheers

You should be able to to insure it as a normal S320cdi with the Brabus upgrades declared as 'dealer fit upgrades'. Are you sure it wasn't a car created by the dealer? Every dealer was given a 'Brabus Upgrade Pack' for various models when the Brabus range was launched last year; the one for the S-Class included everything needed to turn it into a d6 which a few dealers did (including one in our group). I wasn't aware that you could order the car directly from the factory.

Hello,

No, this car was definately "converted" in Germany by Brabus so I presume it will also be classed as an import; increasing my insurance even more (If I can get it.)

Regardless, most insurance companies have no option for dealer fit mods. They just classify anything which is not on a standard car as being "modded."

Any further ideas guys? I'm totally dejected!

Cheers

Hi
MBZ6 (my partner) has a factory fitted Brabus 190 (24v 3.6). He has the same problem, you go round and round in circles with them don't you. He tends to insure his car with Pete Best Insurance each year now. They are the only people who seem to know what Brabus is about (They are also brokers who specialise in Mercs too). Also being members of of Mercedes Benz Car Club helps as he gets a further discount. I hope that helps.

PM me with your email / contact number if you want more help.

Cheers

Hi
MBZ 6 Here
I have owned a Brabus 190 for 8 years and most insurance companies have no idea what a Brabus is.
There are 2 types of Brabus cars, ones built at the factory where only the mercedes bodywork and dashboard remains everything else is changed.Mine has brabus engine, gearbox, suspension, exhaust, seats, body kit, brakes and wheels and even a rear diff cooler. These cars are can be classed as Brabus cars and insured as a Brabus.
The other type are cars that have had just engine mods or Brabus wheels, exhausts, bodykits ect. these cars are insured as modified cars.

How much you have to change to make a car a full Brabus car is a question that is very difficult to answer and everyone will have a differn't opinion
