Hi guys,

My aircon appears to be stuck on economy, which the manual describes as "no cooling". It says that to switch this, you just press the EC button to toggle on or off, but this doesn't work, it just stay on. Do I need a re-gas? Or is it a bit buggered?
W208 430 Cab for those who haven't seen my posts before.

most likely solution is a re-gas. Happens on my W220 every couple of years or so.

What he said.
If there is no pressure in the system then it won't fire the compressor up.

You have go the fan on, haven't you?

AC will not function unless the fan is switched on.

It's probably out of gas - which is why the compressor won't fire up (the clutch won't engage).

Most likely caused by a leak - it shouldn't lose gas otherwise.

The most common cause of leakage is a faulty condensor - this sits in front of the cooling system radiator, and has a pair of electric fans attached.

Expect to pay around £350 for repair (parts and labour) at a good independant/air con service centre if this is the case.

what you need to do is get it re-gassed, with some uv dye in order to check for any leaks & to lube the seals. then it still wont work & this is normal. It will need to go onto a diagnostic machine to clear down the fault codes in the ac system. the diagnostic socket, if you are not going to a main dealer to clear down the faults is either on the kick pan of the drivers foot well, which will be an OBD II connector, if not then it is under the bonnet. if this is the case then first, check at the passenger side by the fire wall for a round sort of cover approx 150mm diameter, with a 10mm plastic nut intergrated. if not there then at the drivers side of the engine bay under the fuse box cover is the plug connector. both under the bonnet are round diagnostic sockets. any problems let me know.

Most common cause of leak is wear and tear , gas will leak out of the system over time thats normal.

A decent air con guy will vac test the system prior to charging it back up its normal proceedure , that will show if there is a leak

costs around £50 for a vac down and re-gas
