Hi

i've just bought a r230 sl500 whcih is graet smile but the battery in the boot is pretty dead and needs replacing.

i have got the part number off teh battery but i'm not sure if it is the right battery to start with. does anybody have a part number or spec of the battery and also the best place to buy one as price appear to range from £65 to over £200!!!

Many thanks

Andy

Andy,
I have the same problem on my SL55 but my dealer says its not unusual as that battery runs a lot of stuff when your not using the car. It has never not started and within 5-10 miles its always back up to charged again. I now leave mine connected to an optimiser charger connected in the boot and its now always charged. My problem is that its a 3rd car and only gets used very occasionally.

Measure the battery, the physical size, the terminal size etc and then fit the the biggest battery you can find in there.

I think the one for my 500E was originally destined for a JCB.

Andy try Bournemouth Battery Company up near Level in Wallisdown, they can porbably supply a non OEM battery at a fraction of the MB price.

If not i am sure the Internet will through up a load of options.

As mentioned if the car isn't used regularly then an Optimiser would be helpfull, MB sell them for £50 ish or Halfords do their equivalent for £25 ish.

They just clip on the battery and are fool proof to use as they have polarity protection and built in overload protection

As I only use my SL occasionally the main battery can be very low, I learnt
to charge it for 3-4 days to bring back full life for at least a year.
If this does not work then a new battery is needed.
Hope you are enjoying the car.

Mark.

been spot since so no problems at all with the battery.

have got a couple of minor electrical issues which I think are all linked - I've checked both fuse boxes which is all ok so only thing could be one of the coloured square things in thw fuse box which appears to have one missing but not sure if there should be 1 there in the 1st place

I assume that you are talking about Relays?
I'd be suprised if one where missing but sticking or faulty is possible.
You'd probably have a warning light on though if that where the case.
Let me know if you are stuck for an Auto Electrician might be able to point you in the right direction?
