Hi, i'm almost at the point of buying a SL55, however just have one question.

The car has buttons behind the steering wheel to change the gears up/down. Has anyone on here any idea as to whether I can change these, aftermarket, for the more desirable paddles that now come on the slk55's?

Cheers

The mounting point on the steering wheel is smaller on the wheel that has buttons, it is possible to cut the wheel to get them to fit. I would have a look at this thread on MB world http://www.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=189... as the guy makes paddles that fit the old style wheel.

Just be aware that selling the car back to a main dealer will be nearly impossible if you do that.

I have my second 55 now and the buttons are unbeatable, the best way to change semi-auto gears by far, always where you want them, unlike paddles that are fixed and don't move with the wheel. If you get the SL, give it a bit of time to get used to before doing anything drastic like a conversion, I reckon you'll love the buttons, or learn to love them :-)

oh but by the way, if you drive cars like they should be driven, be prepared for the most unreliable ride of your life! £16.8k of warranty work on my sl55 since july last year, and that's at the discounted rate dealers charge mb uk! and on my way to le mans on thursday, my heating packed up, so only have cold air until that too adds a few £100 or £1000 to the warranty tally! and my former cl55 kompressor was even worse!!! but i still won't get rid of the car because i still love it, despite rolling issues on an almost weekly basis.

hi, it is possible to upgrade from my memory, if you can get hold of the full chassis number which you will find at the bottom left of the windscreen i would be able to check the availability of upgrading from my parts department at MB where i work
